In Pursuit of an Ideal: Atatürk and Alaca Höyük

The exhibition brings together 235 archaeological and ethnographic artifacts from the Alaca Höyük excavations — many shown side by side for the first time. Launched in 1935 at Atatürk’s direction by Turkey’s first archaeologist Remzi Oğuz Arık and ethnologist Hâmit Zübeyr Koşay, these digs symbolize the young Republic’s commitment to scientific archaeology. Across three floors, bronze and silver animal figures, gold jewelry and ceramics of the Hatti and Hittite civilizations are presented alongside ethnographic pieces tracing cultural continuity in Anatolia.
