Visible Faces of the Time: Timepieces

The exhibition traces humanity’s effort to measure time through clocks. In the Ottoman world, the muvakkits who staffed the timekeeping houses beside great mosques, and the chief astronomers of the palace, calculated the hour from the sun and moon — and were accomplished clockmakers in their own right. The display covers both the technical history of measuring time and its entanglement with religious and everyday life.
